The objective of career development and training at State Printing is to maximize the potential of our greatest asset: our people. We value learning as critical to personal and company success. We believe that training increases proficiency, nurtures self-esteem, expands technical expertise, and cultivates positive attitudes. These are all critical elements to achieving our ultimate objective -to make it easy for our customers.
What are we doing to accomplish these goals?
- Focusing upon the customer. Our employees are trained that you (our customer) are critical to our success, to deepen customer sensitivity, and to improve customer contact skills. Everyone understands that your experience at State must make you feel "at home" when you visit our facility.
- Standardizing the way we work. At State Printing, we have our eye on the future and we have achieved ISO 9002 certification. We have documented our procedures. All documentation is formatted in compliance with ISO 9002 standards. However, we aren't stopping there. The procedures, written in conjunction with subject matter experts, are then taught in a classroom setting and reinforced with hands-on applications. Our goal - consistent and repeatable quality.
- Building leaders at every level. State Printing recognizes that leaders are needed in production, as well as management, in order to build accountability into each step of the process. Gateway to Leadership, a course designed for leadership development at State Printing is conducted on site. Our people learn about leadership, team-building, communication, motivating employees, and improving performance management skills.
- Developing problem-solvers. Printing involves many types of problems. From calculating how many brochures will neatly fit into a box to adjusting the press so the image fits, a good command of math is critical. Through our hands-on ISO training, our people are well prepared to solve production problems.
- Applying a scientific approach to continuous improvement. Process improvement and problem solving teams research specific work functions to identify and eliminate problems. By empowering those closest to the action to solve the problem, we are able to better control our processes.
- Supporting our community. State Printing strives to be a valued partner to education. We work primarily through two schools, Midlands Technical College and Clemson University. Each semester we select Graphics Communications students from Clemson's intern program. The interns are instrumental in documenting procedures and completing other training projects, as well as providing potential talent with which to grow our company. For our local high school and vocational schools, we provide tours to help students better understand what the printing industry can offer them as a career choice. We are proud to support our community's efforts to provide an educated work force for the printing industry!
